Speciality Events at Swindon Theatres – with Caroline Moore

Caroline Moore is the Hospitality General Manager at Wyvern Theatre & Swindon Arts Centre, having joined the team in July 2011. As well as overseeing the theatre bars and cafes, Caroline coordinates a busy calendar of Wyvern Theatre speciality events each year. We checked in with her to find out what’s on the menu for 2016…


Thanks for speaking to us, Caroline. First of all, tell us a little about how you first got involved with the Wyvern Theatre?

I joined the Wyvern team in 2011, when we were in a time of change and challenge. We had a relatively small cafe and bar team at the time and some sporadic events. My first was an eye opening Ladies Night!


I only moved to Swindon in 2010, so The Wyvern was my new local theatre and the programme of shows was exciting and new to me. When I first stepped into the theatre I felt it was so warm, welcoming and friendly that I nearly forgot I was there for an interview! I’ve loved the theatre ever since.

Do you have a favourite thing about working for Swindon Theatres?

I really enjoy the fact that no two days are the same. I get to meet all sorts of characters; not just the stars, but the whole team are like a family and everyone is slightly barmy, which I really like!

What have been your favourite events to organise since starting as Hospitality General Manager and why?  

I find putting together private parties and celebrations really rewarding, from anniversaries to wedding receptions, working closely with our clients to create the perfect day for them! Also the dining events are so fun, especially comedy ones such as Allo Allo and Murder Mysteries.



What goes in to setting up and running an event?

The first thing in an event set-up is creating a great menu and to set the theme. Then we ensure they match one another; if we are putting on an Allo Allo event, we like to run with a French theme in the food and table decorations. We need to ensure we have any food and wine orders in before the event to allow our chefs to spend the day preparing the food. We also need to make sure our actors have a dressing room area and access to plenty of caffeine for the event also!

On the night, it’s all about the customer, making sure everyone is eating, drinking and having a great time. More often than not we have a smooth operation now!

Finally,what kind of speciality events should we expect at Wyvern Theatre in 2016?

We have some fantastic events to look forward to this year: An Evening with Lionel (Feb) is going to be a great music and food event, then the return of Only Fools & 3 Courses in April, followed by A Night of  Burlesque in July and a great Christmas line up including a Casino Royale evening and New Year’s Eve 1920’s Speakeasy to ring in 2017 and much much more in between!
